Hope for Snow!!

Last Friday, 6th grade students started their cross country skiing unit with some relay races! We practiced getting in and out of skis even though there was no snow :) Until 2/24 6th grade students should be bring their snow gear to PE because we will be going outside! Cross your fingers for snow!! 

 

 

First Graders in Ms. Hertz Physical Education Class are learning ball handling skills while working independently. Students are reading numbers, counting, tossing, bouncing and catching. 2017 started off great for Mrs. Olson's students!

Learning Targets for Middle School PE

    Middle school students have been engulfed in a games unit. Below you will find some learning targets for each grade around movement patterns, manipulative skills, and strategies and tactics that will be used during the 4 categories of games: invasion/ territory, net/wall, striking/fielding, target. 
     8th grade will conclude their unit with a create a game project that they will teach to the younger students. 
     7th grade is focused on utilizing different moment patterns and manipulative skills in team handball type games. 
     6th grade will be exposed to a variety of different games and cross country skiing on Fridays. 

7th Grade Creative Movement

7th Graders completed their creative movement unit with some exemplar movement sequences. Students were asked to include the following in their routine:

• 3 Level Changes: low, middle, high
• At least one piece of equipment 
• 2 rolls - log, pencil, forward, backward
• 2 turns- twist, jump turn, spin
• 5 different moves
• 2 exercises - high knees, opposite elbow/ opposite knee

December In Middle School PE

This month 8th graders are working on manipulative skills and strategies and tactics through different games such as team handball and speed ball. 7th graders are showing their appreciation for lifelong physical activity through a creative dance unit. 6th graders are working on hand eye coordination and crossing the mid line during their "Speed stacking" Unit. CARDIO PLAYGROUND Mrs. Olson's physical education classes finished up this fall with tallying up 68 laps on the playground track. Ms.Vigneault, Ms. Hertz, Mrs.Garvey, Miss Castrovillari and Ms. Blair's classes have been working and playing to improve their cardiovascular fitness while listening to signals and enjoying the playground.
